Activities

CDE Bootcamp
Each year ACT hosts a bootcamp for high school students across Ohio who plan to compete in the Agricultural Communications CDE contest through their FFA chapters. ACT students break down each section of the CDE and show participants how to use InDesign to design a magazine layout or have them practice writing a press release about a news conference they may watch during the competition.

Earl McMunn Forum
Each spring, ACT along with Collegiate Young Farmers work together to hold a discussion on a current agricultural issue. For the forum we bring in several industry professionals to hear their thoughts about the topic of choice. Last year’s forum topic was Urban farming.

Community Service
This year we decorated signs for the Childrens Hospital that say phrases such as “Happy Birthday” and “Merry Christmas” for the staff to post and bring some cheer to a child in need. We also donate to the Ronald McDonald House as our chapters philanthropy project.

Social
Once a quarter we meet outside our regular scheduled meeting to share in fun and fellowship. Past socials have included cook-outs and meeting with students from our branch campus ATI to share a holiday meal.

National Conference
We encourage each member to attend the national ACT conference. During the conference ACT members participate in workshops and hear from industry professionals. The conference builds professional skills and encourages networking with other members and industry professionals. This year we are looking forward to attending the conference in Lubbock, Texas.
